“Set Me Free” is a personal ballad sharing hope and freedom that can be found in life. The idea of being “set free” is used as a triple entendre: freedom from the industry, society, and schemes of evil. This track is the lead single for Lecrae’s 2020 ninth studio album, Restoration.

The track marks the first collaboration with Florida rapper/singer YK Osiris, first confirmed on a YouTube interview video with Tall Guy Car Reviews. “Set Me Free” also samples Mary Mary’s 1999 track “Shackles (Praise You)”, which also shares a theme of freedom. The track was first premiered at Lecrae’s halftime show at the Atlanta Hawks game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20, 2020).
